Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are Natura Africa products safe during pregnancy/breastfeeding?
Despite being derived from plants and considered natural, essential oils are potent ingredients. Although our products contain essential oils in a safe dilution, it is advisable to always consult with your doctor before using any products that contain essential oils during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, to ensure safety.
  • What is the best way to store Natura Africa products?
As our products are free from chemical preservatives and made with fresh ingredients, we recommend storing them in a location that is shielded from sunlight or heat sources. Essential oils and fatty acids are sensitive to high temperatures and UV light, so it's best to store them in a dark cupboard to ensure they are well-protected.
  • How do I store my Natura Africa products?
We recommend storing our products in a dark cupboard because they are made without chemical preservatives and are fresh. Our products contain sensitive essential oils and fatty acids that are not tolerant to high temperatures and UV light, so it's best to keep them away from sunlight or heat sources.
  • Can I use oil-based products for oily/combination skin?
While it may seem counterintuitive, using oil-based products can actually be beneficial for oily/combination skin types. This is because oily skin is often the result of the skin producing excess sebum to compensate for dryness. Using an oil-based product can help to balance the skin's natural oil production and prevent it from overproducing sebum. That being said, not all oils are created equal and some can be more comedogenic (pore-clogging) than others. It's important to choose non-comedogenic oils like jojoba, rosehip, and kalahari melon oil, which are less likely to cause breakouts. It's also important to use oil-based products in moderation and in combination with other products that suit your skin type. For example, you can use an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup and dirt, but follow up with a gentle, water-based cleanser to ensure all residue is removed.
  • My balm/whipped shea butter/lip Balm has melted, is it still safe to use?
Due to the absence of additives, our balms are prone to melting at higher temperatures. However, rest assured that they remain safe and effective to use even when melted. In case they do melt, simply refrigerate them until they solidify again. We advise keeping the balms in a cool spot away from direct sunlight to prevent melting.
  • Are Natura Africa products tested on animals?
Absolutely not! Natura Africa skincare products (and also the raw ingredients) are never tested on animals. Our products undergo testing only on willing family and friends.
  • Can I use Natura Africa products in conjunction with other skincare products?
Indeed. Botanical oils have a unique ability to permeate through the lipid layer of the skin, making them more effective carriers for active ingredients to reach deeper levels of the epidermis than water-based products. When used in combination with other skincare treatments, oils can enhance their efficacy by enabling the active ingredients to work more effectively.
  • Do our products contain any animal components or by-products?
No, our products are vegan and do not contain any animal components or by-products.
  • Can I use Natura Africa Products on babies or infants?
Despite being natural, essential oils are potent ingredients. Our products contain essential oils in a safe dilution, but it is important to consult with your doctor before using any products that contain essential oils on babies and infants, to ensure safety.
